List of Topics for Future Articles by US
Links are to beginnings of possible articles

We will be writing a series of articles for our website, and when I say ‘we’ I am hoping that means you and me. All contributions will be sent to the co-authors for final review before posting. So, come forward and be recognized, would-be authors ;)

See an item you want to send your thoughts on? Simply put the item # in an email and send it off to webmaster through the feedback form or directly to fontaine15@charter.net . All will reach me.

The items will be published as we get enough content for them. Don't see an item you'd like? Send it to me and I'll include it...

Let's be neighbors!! ;) and share!

Here’s the list of suggested topics.

  • PRV is for the birds! - history of birdhouses and feeders and our contribution to the cause!
  • Landscaping – our retaining walls and other designed sections. This will give some history of our grounds, who designed these areas, who actually did the work, what were they like before… Have you lived here long? Can you remember anything that would contribute to our story on landscaping? Do you have ideas for future landscaping? Or future uses for our open common grounds. Here’s the chance to express your views.
  • Differences inside our units – we have as many different units as we have units. Do you have something that you are particularly fond of? Built-in cabinetry, French doors, special flooring? We happen to have a hot tub in ours!! For this one, photos would be especially useful. Haven’t you ever wondered? Don’t you look at windows at night to see what you can see? Let’s share.. this could be SO much fun…Ladies, I think we’d be more excited about this one.. Charlene and her hubby have installed a fish tank into the wall going upstairs! She promises pictures soon.
  • Handyman tips – Even though we have many different interiors, we all share the same infrastructure. Just think how valuable a sharing of what you’ve learned could be in this article. How about where your shut-off valves are, or things you’ve learned about the fuse boxes, or smoke detectors, or ceiling vents, or the hundreds of other small things you learn over the years. I bet the guys could contribute a lot of comments to this one. Come on guys, step up to the bat and meet the challenge.
  • Patriotism in PRV – a simple walk around our complex shows that there is a lot of patriotism in PRV – this will be a collection of photos and, hopefully, some of your thoughts on this country of ours. Despite what we think is wrong with it, there is a lot more right with it. Most of us wouldn’t trade being here with being anywhere else. Here’s a chance to express that. Are there any of you that have come here from somewhere else? Your comments would be very interesting.
  • Millbury – what do you think of Millbury? Have you lived here all your life? Are you from another town, state, country? What about the new mall, or the tax rate, the good accessibility to Boston, or what the town has to offer. Does the town lack anything or can the town boast of anything special?
  • Holidays in PRV – one of the first things my husband and I marveled at when we moved here in October of 2000 was Halloween. It was a warm October that year. As we watched, this whole place turned into hometown USA ! Neighbors were sitting outside with bowls of candy, batches of dressed up kids were meandering down the streets, and there were two big Halloween parties in the garages on Meetinghouse. It was unbelievable!! We could not believe how lucky we were to live in such a community! And then Christmas with the Santa fire engine, and Santa visits, etc. Please send your feelings about this topic to me.
  • Unusual pets – many of us have dogs and cats. What about other kinds of pets. Maybe we can get some younger residents to comment on their hamsters, guinea pigs, white rats, fish, or other types of exotic things… does anyone own a tarantula or pet snake??? Tell us a little about your pet. Or maybe you used to have an unusual pet. I had a pet monkey when I was a teen. I have a picture that ran in the local paper with ‘Nicky’ sitting on my shoulder after winning a prize at the local fair.. Also had pet squirrels.
  • Sports – what are your favorites? Does EVERYONE love the Red Sox and Patriots and the Bruins? What other teams are supported here? My hubby adores BOXING, then Patriots (see some pics of a 2003 game), then Red Sox. This is definitely a guy discussion, although lots of women enjoy sports too.
  • Hobbies, Recreation – we’ve got a few boaters here, that I know…where do you put them? Do you fish with them or just cruise around? We have a 28ft Larson we keep in Onset/Wareham. How about golfing? I bet we have some avid golfers here. What’s your handicap? Are you serious about the sport or just like to hit the balls? What are your favorite golf courses? How about water or snow skiing? Or, maybe your hobby is something more like hiking, reading, web design, crocheting or crafts of other types? We all like to do something….Obviously, this is what I like to do!
  • Favorite local spots – what are your favorite restaurants (Post Office Pub, Grafton Inn, Brians?), grocery stores, ice cream place, nursery, car washes (have you tried the new one that tool years to open?).  Here is a chance to promote places you like. The Grafton Inn is our regular spot. We haven't found better fish and chips or chicken marsala anywhere!
  • Doors, windows, garage doors – who have had them replaced, who did you use, are you happy with them? Any words of advice for those who haven’t taken that step yet? How about your heat? Do you know how much you have saved since putting them in? What about the windows? Easy to clean, etc.? This cost for all windows except the bay window and the octagon is about $2600 to replace, according to Randy Struckus. The bay and octagon together are $2600.

Got another idea??? Send it...
