Laurie and Shania - On Top of the World!
On Top of the World! That's how I felt after an arduous 4 mile 1600 vertical foot climb on the Appalachian trail. Sunday of the Columbus Day weekend, my brother, his Boston Terrier Wesley Snipes, me and my Doberman, Shania J, drove to Salisbury, Ct., not far from our dad's house in the northwest Berkshires. 

The sun was just rising at 6:30 a.m. as we parked in a small parking lot. It was a cold October morning and I was thankful I had layered with my best LL Bean fleece trail clothes. The autumn foliage was a vivid canvas as we walked past an insignificant wooden sign that was etched with one word- Trail- and an ominous arrow pointing towards a mountain. 

Fresh and undaunted, we clipped the flexi leads on the dogs and set out for our day's journey. There are few words to describe the untouched beauty of the Appalachian trail and the exhilarating feeling of hiking in the crisp October air.
