PRVA Open House Weekend!

Highlights of each unit on display, written by the owners

1. Laurie Guptill and Randy Struckus - 6 Concord St. What a fun way to get some home improvement or decorating ideas form your neighbors- I know I want to see hard wood floors, as we are considering pulling up the carpet in the dining room. I'd also like to see some units with finished basements- and I need a good reason to clean my house!

* new windows, including front bay window, new garage door, chandelier in dining room

* refinished kitchen cabinets

* new appliances including microwave over the stove

* new carpet and linoleum, new counters in kitchen

* new sink and faucets, new one-piece vanity tops in bathrooms

2. Ellen Mushlin - 6 Meetinghouse. I would love to get on the tour;. I really haven't met many neighbors yet, too much work, not enough play! I am now in the process of painting, and have finished the upstairs bathroom (which came out quite good, if I do say so myself :))

* All my light fixtures have been replaced (except the ceiling fans--those will be replaced another time).

* Removed a light fixture over the bathtub and painted the upstairs bathroom. I also added a vanity size mirror to both bathrooms with vanity lights. May favorite light fixtures are the kitchen, upstairs bathroom, and pendant light on the landing.

* I painted the upstairs "built-in" bookcase, and created a black & white photo collection, using an Ansel Adams, and some photos of may family from the 1920's-1950's. It looks wonderful!

*Bought new window treatments: Room darkening shades for the bedroom, soft cellular shades for the den and my favorite: 2" wooden blinds for the living room. The company I used was a bit pricey, but they gave me the great suggestion and installed them.

*Bought paints for all other rooms, but haven't started yet! Hopefully in the Fall (before the holidays). I'm looking for some new ideas for flooring.

* Bought some new furniture: New bedroom set w/Armoire and new "den" set w/slate tiled tables and a very cool area rug from Jordan's Furniture.

Can't wait for the "tour". I think it's a wonderful suggestion!

3. Maureen Grinnell -  4 Meetinghouse. I would just like to express our interest in participating neighborhood open house and the up coming yard sale. My husband and I just got married a few months ago and have lots to sell. We have also made a few organizational updates to our home as well as a pellet stove and custom hearth that we love and used last winter without using the electric heat at all. What a savings!

4. Halina Murphy - 45 Lexington. Yes, I'd like to be part of the tour and see some other units for ideas.  I'm not much of a decorator and don't have much furniture but I'll have to admit it doesn't matter because the floors look so good.  I do need to do some cleaning though so sometime this fall sounds good!
5. Normand and Joanne - 18 Lexington. Normand & I will be happy to put our unit on your tour. We have just finished a complete cosmetic refinishing. I think our upstairs den came out quite nice and as most people use this front room as a bedroom, it is a little unique.
6. Dorothy Jay  - 6 Lexington. Alan and I just moved in recently and are looking  forward to meet the neighbors and get some ideas for finalizing our move. We are not all together yet but not shy to welcome our new  neighbors into our new home.
7. Michelle and Bob Fontaine - 15 Lexington. I think the neatest thing about our unit is the hot tub and bar in our basement room. The previous owner also did some very nice things in the kitchen, white gloss sponge paint ,stenciling, borders, etc.  (I also need a reason to clean my house!)

* Parquet flooring in dining room, sponge painted walls, fruit design borders, stenciling in kitchen, dining area pull it together nicely. Done by interior decorator hired by previous owner, Holly Oliveri.

*Bar/hot tub room. Bar was built by Holly. We added pub table chairs and the hot tub. Though a bit challenging getting into the room, it works nicely. The addition of mirrors that almost cover the walls opens the room up. The tv in the upper corner completes the scene and makes it a very well-used room!

*Newly decorated living room - spurred by this event. Freshly painted walls, new leather couch and recliner in mushroom color, stone tile tables,  complemented by greens and rusts...what fun to decorate!

*Marble thresholds in bathrooms, 6" octagon stone tile floors, ceiling fans throughout unit.

*Upstairs master bedrooms, border, bedspread matching theme, blues and pinks, simple and open.

*Office room - typical cluttered office environment, computer, treadmill and tv. Nothing special, but works well.
