Randy and Laurie - Vacations 2005
|
|
January and February were travel months for
Randy and me. My company has a booth at the NAMM (National
Assoc. of Musical Merchandisers) show in Anaheim, CA. The show
is held at the Convention Center and we stay at the Anaheim
Marriott in Disneyland. It's always fun to get away to
California for a week in January, and this year was no
exception- it was 80º and sunny when we landed at LAX and the
weather only improved! This is a picture of my team on the
roof top of the Marriott. This was before Melanie rode the
roller coaster at Disneyland as was sick for two days!

Since this is a music trade show, many rock stars and
celebrities are invited to the show, especially if they
endorse a certain product or brand. My big thrill this year
was to meet Rick Springfield (pictured)

(I've also met Davy Jones and David Cassidy!). At the PRS
booth I rubbed elbows with Dave Navarro and Carlos Santana.
Stevie Wonder frequently walks the show floor and two years
ago I had the honor of meeting Ray Charles. This year was
particularly memorable because we were not able to get a
flight out due to the NE blizzard! For 3 days we tried to
schedule a flight, and finally we were lucky enough to get
seats on the red eye on Wednesday night. To pass the time away
in LA, we rented a car and drove up the coast, stopping in
Venice Beach, Santa Monica and shopped on Rodeo Drive! It was
good to get home but hard to see around the huge mounds of
plowed snow drifts!

As soon as my plane landed, Randy was off for a week in the
sun in Jupiter, FL., visiting a high school friend who rents a
condo for the month of Feb.

Later in February I traveled to visit my printer,
Publisher's Press in Louisville, KY. On the way home, I
stopped to visit my brother and his family in Charlotte. To
celebrate my niece's 8th birthday, we vacationed at the Grove
Park Resort and Spa in Asheville, NC. (pictured).
|

The spa is dug into a side of the mountain and has hot
springs and mineral baths with waterfalls. We had papaya
facials, aromeopathy massages and worked out in the Sports
Complex's gym facilities. The restaurants in the resort served
delicious fare, but bring your checkbooks- it's not an
inexpensive weekend- but what a nice break form the northeast
winter!

Late Feb. and March I have time to ski, and last year I
upgraded my skis and am anxious to hit the slopes. My brother
and my nephew will fly up from Charlotte the first of the
March and we'll ski a few days at Mt. Snow in Vt. My nephew is
14 and learning to snow board and has already mastered the art
of skiing the harder black diamond trails- ah, the fearless
youth!
I am looking forward to warmer weather and planting the
buckets at the entrance with fresh spring flowers-
