Roxie Fontaine now has a brother, Max.
When we decided to get another minpin, we thought of a
puppy. They are always so darn cute.
But, then we decided it was more
important to save a life. We researched the minpin
rescue league. Then have a chapter in Branford, CT and
they had 23 minpins to adopt! Some of them can be seen
here. http://www.minpinrescue.org/dogs1.html#CT
.We filled out the adoption papers, got a
terrific reference from Laurie Guptill saying we are
good 'dog' parents, and we were accepted. Early one
Saturday morning, off we went to Branford. When we got
there all we could hear was barking. Phyllis and her
husband literally have 23 miniature pinschers running
around their house. They have a big fenced in back yard
and the dogs are allowed out at will. It certainly
allows them to socialize but what noise! She instructed
us to sit right away and let the dogs get used to us.
Almost immediately, a little one hopped onto Bob's lap
and started licking him. He didn't bark, just claimed
that lap. Phyllis said, you know, it's funny, but people
think they are coming here to adopt a dog and it is
really the dog that adopts the person.

Max belonged to an elderly couple, in their 80's. The man
had a stroke and the woman just couldn't remember to take care of the
dog. She gave him to the animal pound. They gave him a 'temperament'
test where they put him in a cage and poked him with a stick which had a
black glove on it. Of course, the dog freaked out. They decided he had
to be put down. Most animal pounds will call the rescue league of the
breed, but this one does not. It just so happened, the manager of minpin
dropped in and found "Max" just 2 hours before he was going to
be put to sleep. He was saved and brought to the minpin rescue league CT
chapter. We named him Max because it was unclear what his name was and
he looks like a Max. He is extremely gentle, 6 years old, wants to be
cuddled all the time, is very submissive to Roxie and they are becoming
good buddies. He appears older than his years probably due to neglect
but he is getting happier by the day. You'll always see the two of them
on their perch in our window checking out the views when you walk by. We
are so happy with our, or should I say his, choice! - Michelle and Bob
