Unusual Pets
Many of us have, or have had, dogs and cats. What about other kinds of pets. Maybe we can get some younger residents to comment on their hamsters, guinea pigs, white rats, fish, or other types of exotic things… does anyone own a tarantula or pet snake??? Tell us a little about your pet. Or maybe you used to have an unusual pet. I had a pet monkey when I was a teen. Below is a picture that ran in the local paper with ‘Nicky’ sitting on my shoulder after winning a prize at the local fair. Living near the woods, I also had pet squirrels.
Nicky, the pet monkey At the vulnerable age of 13, I decided I wanted a monkey. I have no idea what possessed my folks to buy one for me, but I ended up with Nicky, a little squirrel monkey with a long curly tail. Dad put a harness on him so I could attach a leash and we would go off on walks. Most of the time he spent in a roomy outside cage. Nicky was temperamental, but I enjoyed the notoriety of having such an unusual pet. When Nicky matured at the end of the summer, he definitely wanted to be with his own kind! We brought him up to Southwick's animal farm and let him go in a huge barn of squirrel monkeys. Decades later, an uncle found this article he had kept.

Miss Deb
	Little Deb is a pet of the Doberman Rescue League and one of Laurie G's favorites. Deb was rescued from a 'horrible' fate and now enjoys the life of protected leisure. No spare ribs for this miss. Little Deb is having a new home built for her with a Pilates Studio and a spa... her roommates will be the smaller pigs Wendy and Stedman.
